A Pasqutoank County man is facing rape and burglary charges in connection with a break-in at a Weeksville family care home earlier this year.
Willie Jerome Rucker was arrested June 10 and served with grand jury indictments charging him with first-degree burglary and second-degree rape, Pasquotank County Sheriff Tommy Wooten said in a press release Thursday.
Rucker was transported to the Pasqutoank Magistrate's Office where a $5,000 secured bond was set. Rucker was then transported to Albemarle District Jail. It was not immediately clear if he was still at the jail Thursday evening.
The charges against Rucker stem from a reported break-in at a residence in the 1200 block of Weeksville Road the night of Jan. 18.
According to an incident report filed by the Sheriff's Office at the time, someone entered Lily's Blessings family care home by breaking window screens. A woman at the residence also reported being raped during the break-in, according to the report.
In his press release, Wooten said investigators began a probe of the incident shortly after responding to the residence around 12:25 a.m.
Rucker became a suspect in both the break-in and rape during the investigation, Wooten said. Investigators then presented their allegations against Rucker to a grand jury and the two indictments were returned.
The Pasquotank County Department of Social Services also assisted with the investigation, Wooten said.
