Edenton man sentenced for burglaries of post office

EDENTON — An Edenton man has been sentenced to more than a year in federal prison after pleading guilty to taking part in a plot to burglarize the Edenton post office five times in 2015.

Ashiri Shari Stallings, 22, was sentenced to 16 months in prison by Chief U.S. District Judge Terrence W. Boyle on June 24, according to a press release from the U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of North Carolina.

Stallings pleaded guilty in January to receiving stolen government money or property exceeding $1,000 in value. 

According to prosecutors, Stallings participated in a plot to burglarize the Edenton post office five times in 2015. The post office lost $26,190.91 in cash or other property in the burglaries.

Boyle also sentenced Stallings to three years of supervised release as part of his plea agreement.

The U.S. Postal Inspection Service investigated the case against Stallings.
