CAMDEN — The Camden County Department of Social Services is monitoring the welfare of three children living in a tent on Trotman Road, according to the Camden County Sheriff’s Office.

On July 9 a concerned citizen reported that three children were living in a tent with their parents on a vacant lot on Trotman Road, Jones said.

The deputy went to the site and reported the situation to Camden DSS, which sent a social worker to make an assessment, Jones said.

DSS made an initial decision to allow the children to remain with their parents because they were not in immediate danger, Jones said. DSS is continuing to monitor the situation, he said.

The family is from out of state and plans to return to their home once their vehicle is running, Jones said.

“The Department of Social Services is well aware,” Jones said. “They have been down there and assessed the situation.”

DSS will notify the Sheriff’s Office if additional assistance is needed, Jones said.
