An Elizabeth City teenager was killed in a single-vehicle accident in northern Pasquotank County Monday morning.
Logan Wayne Grubb, 16, of the 2000 block of Willis Drive, was killed when his Ford truck overturned on Berea Church Road and ended up in a swamp, according to information from the N.C. Highway Patrol.
An official with Pasquotank-Camden Emergency Medical Services said Grubb was pronounced dead at the scene.
Berea Church Road, which is about 3 1/2 miles north of Elizabeth City, links Main Street Extended with U.S. Highway 17. Grubb was traveling near the Main Street Extended side of Berea Church Road when the accident happened about 10:30 a.m., the patrol said.
No other details about the accident were immediately available.
Trooper A.T. Miller investigated the accident. He could not be reached for comment Monday evening.
Tammy Sawyer, the school spokeswoman for Elizabeth City-Pasquotank Public Schools, said Logan was a student at Pasquotank County High School, where he also was a member of the school football team.
"The Board of Education, Superintendent (Catherine) Edmonds and the ECPPS family are deeply saddened by the loss of our student," Sawyer said in a statement released by the school district. "Logan was not only our student, but also the son of one of our educators. We share sincere and heartfelt condolences with his family and friends."
The school district will have additional counselors and support staff available for students and staff as needed, Sawyer said.
