There’s a new tire dealer in town.

Discount Tire is now open at 3835 Conlon Way near Hobby Lobby. It is the retailer’s first store in Elizabeth City and the company’s 35th location in North Carolina, according to a press release.

The Elizabeth City location features three service bays, a customer service area with an observation window looking into the bays, plus plenty of parking. At the store’s website at discounttire.com/store/nc/elizabeth-city/s/2196, customers can set appointments for a variety of services, such as new tires and to speak with a sales representative, tire rotation and balance, among other services.

According to the press release, Discount Tire carries several top brands of tires, including BFGoodrich, Bridgestone, Continental, Cooper, Falken, Goodyear, Michelin and Pirelli. The store also carries custom-wheel brands, such as American Outlaw, Black Rhino, Liquid Metal, MB, TSW and Vision.

Discount Tire is based in Scottsdale, Arizona, and was founded by Bruce Halle in 1960 as a tire shop in Ann Arbor, Michigan, the release states. Today, the company operates more than 1,000 stores in 35 states. In nearly the last six years, Discount Tire has grown significantly, opening stores in 11 new states.

Discount Tire employs 23,000 people company wide and expects to maintain a staff of about 15 to 20 full- and part-time workers at its Elizabeth City branch, a company public relations official said via email Thursday.

Discount Tire also is the key sponsor for two Ford Mustang NASCAR vehicles, one of which is driven by Brad Keselowski.

Other regional Discount Tire locations include Greenville, Wilson, and in Virginia in Chesapeake, Norfolk and Virginia Beach.

In early 2018, Halle Properties submitted a site plan for the new store location. City Manager Rich Olson said at the time that Discount Tire’s proposed plan included a 7,700 square-foot-building, three service bays, a small retail space and 37 total parking spaces.

The store is open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays, and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays. Discount Tire is closed on Sundays.
