ECPPS to welcome 5,191 students on Monday

The Elizabeth City-Pasquotank Public Schools will start the 2019-20 school year on Monday with a renewed emphasis on the achievement and well-being of all students.

Superintendent Catherine Edmonds is leading the school district under the theme, “How are the children?”

ECPPS opens school with an estimated total enrollment of 5,191 students. Estimated enrollment by school is 362 at Central Elementary; 615 at Elizabeth City Middle; 27 at H.L. Trigg Community; 370 at J.C. Sawyer Elementary; 636 at Northeastern High School; 447 at Northside Elementary; 396 at P.W. Moore Elementary; 698 at Pasquotank County High School; 285 at Pasquotank Elementary; 583 at River Road Middle; 399 at Sheep-Harney Elementary; 257 at Weeksville Elementary; and 116 at Elizabeth City-Pasquotank Early College.

The school district is starting school with 335 teachers and 108 teacher assistants.

As of Friday there were 10 vacant teaching positions. Other vacancies included one in guidance counseling, one in speech therapy and one in instructional coaching.

At Central Elementary School classes will begin at 7:40 a.m. and end at 2:40 p.m. Buses are slated to begin picking up students at 6:14 a.m. and finish dropping students off at 3:59 p.m.

The opening time at J.C. Sawyer Elementary School is 7:40 a.m. and the school day ends at 2:40 p.m. The scheduled beginning of bus pickup is 6:14 a.m. and students are scheduled to be dropped off by 3:49 p.m. Northside Elementary School opens at 7:40 a.m. and ends at 2:40 p.m. The scheduled start time for bus pickup is 5:42 a.m. and the bus finish time is scheduled for 4:15 p.m. Pasquotank Elementary School begins at 7:40 a.m. and will end at 2:40 p.m., with bus pickup and drop-off slated for 5:56 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. The school day at P.W. Moore Elementary School begins at 7:40 a.m. and ends at 2:40 p.m. Bus pickup is slated to begin at 6:10 a.m. and end by 4:30 p.m.

Sheep-Harney Elementary School begins at 7:40 a.m. and ends at 2:40 p.m. Bus pickup is scheduled to start at 6:16 a.m. and end at 4:12 p.m. Weeksville Elementary School starts at 7:40 a.m. and end at 2:40 p.m. Bus pickup is scheduled to start at 6:04 a.m. and end at 4:06 p.m.

Elizabeth City Middle School begins at 8:15 a.m. and end at 3:15 p.m. Bus pickup is slated to begin at 5:48 a.m. and end at 5:11 p.m. River Road Middle School begins at 8:10 a.m. and end at 3:10 p.m. Bus pickup is slated to start at 6:11 a.m. and end at 5:02 p.m.

H.L. Trigg Community School starts at 8:35 a.m. and ends at 3:15 p.m. Bus pickup is scheduled to start at 7:32 a.m. and end at 4:32 p.m.

Northeastern High School begins at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 3:30 p.m. Bus pickup is slated to begin at 6:02 a.m. and end at 5:13 p.m. Pasquotank County High School starts at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 3:30 p.m. Bus pickup is scheduled to start at 6:12 a.m. and end at 5:23 p.m. Elizabeth City-Pasquotank Early College starts at 8 a.m. and ends at 3:30 p.m. Bus pickup starts at 5:50 a.m. and ends at 5:28 p.m.

School breakfast and lunch prices have not changed from last year. Breakfast for students in grades K-12 will be $1.30. Reduced-price breakfast is served at no charge. Adult breakfast prices are $2.25 and $3.50. Lunch prices for students in K-12 is $2.45 Reduced-price lunches for all students is 40 cents. Adult lunch prices cost $3.85 and $4.85.

ECPPS offers optional technology insurance and a maintenance fee at a cost of $10 for students in grades 3-5 and $20 for students in grades 6-12.
