St. James to host 'Year of Thanksgiving'

TODAY

Pleasant Grove AME Zion, Edenton. The senior choir will celebrate its anniversary at 3 p.m.

Bethel AME Zion. The church will hold its annual prayer breakfast at 8:30 a.m. The women of the church will also sponsor a Gospel Explosion at Mt. Zion AME Zion Church at 4 p.m. The Elizabeth City District Mass Choir and the Samuel Chapel Male Chorus will perform.

Woman's Christian Service. The Women’s Conference will present “The Hope Coach” and Tawana Williams at noon. Registration is $20 which includes lunch and a T-Shirt. Contact: 339-1547.

SUNDAY

Powells Point Baptist. Captain’s Crew will perform at 6 p.m. An ice cream social in the fellowship hall will follow.

Harvest Christian Fellowship. Pastor Jacob Burke Sr. and Pastor James D. Corbett will be the speakers, respectively, for the church’s anniversary celebration services at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. The Greenville Community Christian Church Praise Team Church will perform.

Sharon United Methodist. The church in Poplar Branch will host a homecoming celebration starting at 10:30 a.m. A potluck luncheon will follow the service.

St. James AME Zion. The Rev. Dr. Ricky L. Banks of St. Stephen Missionary Baptist Church will be the speaker for “A Year of Thanksgiving” program at 3 p.m. 

Good Hope AME Zion. The Rev. Doris Gramby of Rebecca and Pitts Chapel will be the speaker for Deaconess Day at 2:30 p.m.

Samuel Chapel MBC. LaVette Washington-Skinner will be the speaker for Women's Day at 11:30 a.m.

Open Door Christian Fellowship. The Rev. Calvin Billups of New Birth Fellowship Church will be the speaker for the church’s anniversary at 2 p.m.

Mt. Carmel Baptist. The Rev. Jerry Jones will be the speaker for Men’s Day at 2 p.m.

First Gospel Tabernacle. The church will hold pastor and church anniversary services Sunday through Sunday, Nov. 19. Bishop Ray Bynum of Whaleysville, Va. will be the speaker Sunday at 2 p.m. and Bishop Jobie Boone of First Gospel of Chesapeake will be the speaker Sunday, Nov. 12, at noon. Speakers for the rest of the week, respectively, are Dr. Catherine White Parsons of Temple Fellowship Church, Elder Daniel Spellman of Guiding Light Apostle, pastor Annie B. Whidbee of Word of Life, Booker T. Coston of Whole Truth Apostolic and Bishop John S. Harrell of Creator House of Faith. Those services are at 7:30 p.m.

MONDAY

Corinth CoC/Vision of Hope. Pastor William T. Davis will be the speaker for services celebrating the pastor’s 22nd anniversary starting Monday, Nov. 13, at 7:30 p.m. Pastor-elect Samuel K. Shaw III will be the speaker Tuesday through Thursday, Nov. 14-16, at 7:30 p.m. The Rev. Wilder will be the speaker Sunday, Nov. 19, at 2:30 p.m.

TUESDAY 

Holy Trinity Community. The Rev. Dwight Riddick will be the speaker for the fall revival Tuesday and Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.

FRIDAY

Jarvisburg CoC. The church’s free clothing giveaway service will be closed starting Friday and reopen Friday, Jan. 5. No donations will be accepted during the closing.

Corinth Baptist Church. A pork chop dinner fundraiser to help Jeff Ballance defray his medical expenses will be held from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tickets are $9 and be purchased weekdays by contacting 331-1622 or weekends by calling 333-0407.

Berea Baptist. The church will host its "All Wrapped Up!" Craft & Vendor Show Saturday, Nov. 18 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Free admission, door prizes, and concessions will be available.

Mt. Lebanon A.M.E. Zion. Antoinette Reid will be the speaker for the American Education Month Breakfast/Sunday School Rally Day on Sunday, Nov. 19 at 9:45 a.m. Breakfast will be served.

Oak Hill A.M.E. Zion. The Rev. Dr. Joseph Walton will be the speaker for the Founders Day program Sunday, Nov. 19, at 2:30 p.m. celebrating the church’s 162nd anniversary.

Philadelphia Missionary MBC. Pastor Kevin Lighty of Samuel Chapel Missionary Baptist Church will be the speaker for the church’s anniversary Sunday, Nov. 19, at 2 p.m.

Corinth Baptist. The Shedd Family will perform a concert Sunday, Nov. 19 at 6 p.m. An offering will be taken.

Newbegun UMC. The church will host its 25th annual pre-Thanksgiving pie sale at the Pasquotank Center of the N.C. Cooperative Extension Service, Tuesday and Wednesday, Nov. 21-22, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. 

 Mt. Carmel Baptist. The church will host “The Joys of Christmas” program on Sunday, Dec. 10 at 4 p.m.

ONGOING

Hertford UMC. The Lord’s Table Soup Kitchen is held in the fellowship hall every Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
