Northside students create STREAM projects through Makerspace

Students at Northside Elementary School have been working collaboratively on a number of projects through the school media center’s Makerspace program. Through Makerspace, students learn to use tools and materials to design a variety of ideas and projects related to science, technology, robotics, engineering, arts and math. Among the STREAM projects students have worked on include Kid K’NEX; Straw Construction; Gears, Gears, Gears; Lego Community; Snap Circuits — Electricity; K’nex — Force & Motion; K’nex — Structures; and K’nex — Simple Machines. Patricia Daniels, media specialist, introduced students and teachers to the Makerspace concept in 2017.
P.W. Moore to host Duke Energy Science Night
P.W. Moore Elementary will host a Duke Energy Science Night on Tuesday, March 12 at 6 p.m. The event is designed to give students and their families a chance to explore science together. Hands-on activities will introduce a range of science, technology, engineering and math topics in a way that is fun and easy to understand. P.W. Moore was selected to host a Duke Energy Science Night by the North Carolina Science Festival, a month-long celebration of science each April. PCHS band students recognized at festival
Pasquotank County High School students Krystal Trulin, who plays tenor saxophone, and Matthew Brannon, who plays trumpet, were selected as outstanding performers at the Carolina Jazz Festival held at UNC-Chapel Hill on Feb. 16.
RRMS students selected for band clinic
River Road Middle School will have 13 students attend this year’s Albemarle Band Clinic at First Flight High School on April 4-5. The RRMS students attending the clinic include: Nashiyah Adams, clarinet; Shemar Barrington, tuba; Emmanuel Brown, baritone sax; Justine Brown, flute; Nakozi Burley, trombone; Javion Carthen, tuba; Chyna Foskey, clarinet; Jacob Gregory, trumpet; Kristin Jackson, clarinet; Chanell Johnson, tenor sax; Andrew Pizano, trumpet; Aaron Roach, trombone; and Noah Turner, trumpet.
