EDENTON — The Edenton volleyball team gave its first-year coach her first victory after a three-set win against Gates on Monday.

The season opening 25-14, 25-19 and 25-20 result was a strong start for new leader Victoria Brinson.

Roslyn Bunch dished out 12 assists while Kneciya Tripp put down four kills. Kinlee Chappell and Sharon Jackson each had five digs.

Brandon added Bunch was responsible for 28 points in the match, had 12 aces and dominated serving in the third set.

Monday began a first week of the fall for the Lady Aces with three contests: Gates, at Perquimans on Tuesday and South Creek at home Thursday.


Gates 2, Pasquotank 1: The Panthers started their season 0-1 after allowing a second half goal against the Red Barons.

No other information was available for Pasquotank as it next goes to Camden on Thursday to face the Bruins and Preston Kuno, who led the Panthers last season.

Manteo 4, Northeastern 3: In a back-and-forth second half Monday, the Redskins got the final say on Roanoke Island to top the Eagles.

No other information was available for NHS, who is at Gates today.


Rocky Mount 7, Edenton 2: The team match was clinched by the 3A school after winning five in singles Monday.

Whitney Cranford secured the Lady Aces’ lone win in singles at No. 2. Ellie Rinehart and Anna Bass teamed at No. 1 doubles for a 10-4 victory.
