Elizabeth City State’s Jalyn Brown scored 22 points to lead the Lady Vikings past Saint Augustine’s 57-53 in overtime on Thursday in a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association contest.

ECSU (4-5, 2-0 CIAA) held a eight-point lead to start the fourth quarter, but Saint Augustine’s (3-9, 0-1 CIAA) rallied in the quarter.

The Lady Falcons tied the game at 45 with 27 seconds remaining after a three-point play by Ja'Yon Leak.

In overtime, Brown and Charlise Greenwood paced ECSU to a seven-point lead nearly two minutes into the extra frame.

The Lady Vikings held on in the final 90 seconds for the win.

Greenwood added eight points with four assists and six rebounds, while Jasmine Nixon tallied 11 rebounds for the Lady Vikings.


Saint Augustine's 74, ECSU 63: After trailing 38-35 at halftime, the Vikings fell behind by 13 points nearly five minutes into the second half.

John Maynor led ECSU (1-9, 0-2 CIAA) with 15 points in the loss on Thursday. Jordan Jones added 12 points with eight rebounds for the Vikings.

Saint Augustine's (7-5, 2-0 CIAA) led by as much as 18 points in the final 20 minutes.

Quincy January led the Falcons with 18 points and 10 rebounds, while Kenneth Collins added 15 points.

ECSU shot 38.9 percent from the field and only connected on 27.8 percent from behind the 3-point line.

Up next, ECSU takes on Fayetteville State today at the Lenoir Community College gym in Kinston.

ECSU is the designated home team in both the men's and women's games. The women tip-off at 5 p.m., while the men start at 7 p.m.
