Alexander powers MACU women past Vaughn

CORONA, N.Y. — Talethia Alexander scored a game-high 23 points as the Mid-Atlantic Christian women's basketball team earned a 97-42 victory over Vaughn on Saturday afternoon at the Elmcor Recreation Center.
Alexander, a sophomore, connected on 7-of-10 shots from behind the 3-point line for the Lady Mustangs (7-6).
Freshman Aleah McNeal followed with 20 points and eight assists, while Tierra Lester added 17 points.
MACU led 47-23 at halftime and cruised to its second consecutive victory.
The Lady Mustangs finished shooting 45.9 percent from the field and connected on 40 percent of shots behind the 3-point line.
MACU took care of the basketball as it only committed 10 turnovers and held Vaughn (2-5) to 23.5 percent shooting from the field in the contest.
The Lady Mustangs return to the court on Jan. 11 as they take on Penn State-York in York, Pa. to begin the new year.
Fayetteville State 47, ECSU 29
KINSTON — The Elizabeth City State women's basketball team saw its three game winning streak come to an end on Saturday at the Lenoir Community College gym.
The contest was a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association matchup.
Jalyn Brown led ECSU with nine points with five steals, while Chalise Greenwood added six points. ECSU shot 23.4 percent from the field.
Chinwendu Maduegbunam led Fayetteville State (2-8, 1-2 CIAA) with 14 points.
ECSU (4-6, 2-1 CIAA) is 0-2 against the Lady Broncos this season. The Lady Vikings fell to the Lady Broncos 57-56 on Nov. 26 in Elizabeth City. That contest was a non-conference matchup.
The Lady Vikings host Salem International on Dec. 30 at the Vaughan Center.
