Currituck hoops sweeps Perquimans

BARCO — Tre Burton scored 25 points as the Currituck boys basketball team defeated Perquimans 61-59 on Wednesday night in a non-conference matchup.

Currituck (7-5) held a 45-35 lead after three quarters against Perquimans (7-4) entering the final eight minutes of the game.

The Knights were able to weather a 24-16 fourth quarter by the Pirates for the win.

Trey Calloway followed with 11 points and Lorenza Spence added eight for Currituck.


Currituck 39, Perquimans 30: Jessica Smith and Lindsey Lykins each scored 13 points to lead the Lady Knights (9-4) to a third consecutive victory on Wednesday.

Trailing 30-16 after the third quarter, Perquimans (6-5) outscored Currituck 14-9 in the final quarter of the non-conference game.

The Lady Pirates are 2-2 in their past four games.

As of Thursday evening, Perquimans is set to travel to Gates in Coastal 10 Conference action.


The Northeastern girls relay teams earned top three finishes at the swimming meet at the Outer Banks YMCA on Wednesday.

The 400-meter freestyle relay team of Hannah Evans, Elizabeth Galligan, Julianna Connor and Emily Breaux too first place in the event with a time of 5:14.05.

The quartet bested the First flight relay team by 10 seconds.

The Lady Eagles also took second place in the 200-medley relay at 2:29.95. The relay was comprised of Galligan, Connor, Breaux and Morgan Ray.

First Flight posted the top time in the race.

Northeastern took the top three spots in the girls 50 free as Galligan finished in first, followed by Connor and Breaux.

Pasquotank's Hannah Walton finished in sixth in the event.

Jessie Dennis took second place in the girls 100-meter butterfly for Pasquotank.

On the boys side, Northeastern's Peter Breaux won the 200-meter freestyle and the 100-meter backstroke.

First Flight won the girls meet with 617 points, while Manteo took the boys meet with 385.50 points.

NHS finished in third in both team meets, while Pasquotank finished in fourth.
