Edenton baseball falls to Monsignor McClancy

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Monsignor McClancy scored two runs in the seventh inning to defeat the Edenton baseball team 9-8 at the Mingo Bay Classic on Thursday afternoon.
Edenton (15-3) held an 8-4 lead after five innings, but the Crusaders rallied with three runs in the sixth to make it a one-run game entering the final frame.
The Aces scored two runs in the first and third innings and posted a four spot in the fourth.
The Crusaders plated runs in the first, third, fourth and fifth innings and finished with nine hits.
Stanley White led the Aces with a hit and three RBIs, while Nathaniel Stallings posted two hits with an RBI.
The Aces finished their third game at the Classic with six hits.
Edenton was hurt by committing three errors in the game against the Queens, New York club.
Pitcher Matt Benfield went six innings on the mound and registered seven strikeouts for Edenton.
Benfield, a senior, had 16 first pitch strikes.
Edenton is scheduled to play North Stafford (Va.) today at noon at the Classic.
