HERTFORD — The Perquimans baseball team lost to Voyager Academy 8-0 on Tuesday in a 1A state playoffs, third round game.

The Pirates (22-5), the No. 2 seed in the 1A East, were held to six hits in the contest.

Voyager Academy (17-5) held a 3-0 lead after two innings.

The No. 6 seed Vikings added a run in the fifth, three in the sixth and a run in the seventh.

Devin Mathis went four innings, while Cole Turner went 1 1/3 innings and registered three strikeouts for the Pirates.

This spring, Perquimans secured the Coastal 10 Conference championship, which was its first league title since the 2014 season.


Louisburg 8, Perquimans 3: The Lady Pirates (22-5), the No. 8 seed in the 1A East, fell to the No. 1 seed in the region on Tuesday in a 1A state playoff, third round game at Louisburg.

Laine Barefoot and Chelsea Roberson both had two hits with two RBIs for the Lady Warriors (23-3).

The Lady Pirates secured another 20-win season and a share of the Coastal 10 Conference championship this season.
