Currituck, Pasquotank, Edenton and Northeastern track and field athletes qualified for the 2A state championship meet held at North Carolina A&T State in Greensboro today. 

Qualification was based on finishes at the 2A east regional held at Pasquotank High School on May 13, as athletes had to earn a top four finish in their event in order to qualify.

Here is what to watch for:

CURRITUCK

Outlook: The girls team qualified for the state championship meet in several events, led by their 4X200 and 4X800 relay teams. Individual qualifiers for the Lady Knights include Destiny Ferebee, Amberine Brown and Abigail Wooten. Ferebee qualified for the discus throw with a fourth place finish and will compete as the 11th seed. Brown will be competing as the 4th seed after finishing third in the 100 meters with a time of 12.66 seconds. 

Wooten finished in fourth place in the 800 meters, earning her the 16th seed. On the boys side, the 4X800 relay team qualified after coming in fourth place in the regional. The team made up of Ryan Camden, Josh Beaumont, Madison Phillips and Brad Saunders earned the 16th seed for the state championship.

PASQUOTANK

Outlook: The Panthers 4X100 relay team qualified with a third place finish and the 4X200 relay team qualified with a second place finish. The 4X200 team will be competing as the 5th seed while the 4X100 team earned the 6th seed. Samuel Bingham will be competing in the 200 meter as the 12th seed after finishing third in the regional with a time of 22.93 seconds. 

The Lady Panthers were led by their 4X100 relay team of Amaya Simpson, Kennedy Griffin, Jaleia Oatman and Aundrea Morgan who earned the title for the third consecutive year and will compete as the 9th seed. The Lady Panthers received individual qualifications from Morgan, Simpson and Jasiya Raynor. 

Morgan will be competing in the 100 and 200 meter, Simpson will compete in the triple jump and Raynor in the long jump, triple jump and the 4X400 relay. 

EDENTON

Outlook: The Lady Aces 4X100 meter relay team earned the 13th seed in the state championship after their third place finish in the regional. The team is made up of Alana Stevenson, Destiny Miles, Invyous Williams and Chanel Copeland. 

Copeland and Stevenson were both a part of the 4X100 meter relay team, which took second place at the state championship meet in 2015. Stevenson also finished in seventh place in the 100 meters final in 2015.  

NORTHEASTERN

Outlook:  The Eagles are led by their 4X400 relay team of Seth Overman, Kenny Hewitt, Carlos Raven and Jermarri Turner, who will be competing as the 15th seed. 

Overman and Hewitt both qualified for the 400 meters with third and fourth place finishes respectively and will be competing as the 12th and 13th seeds. 

The 4X100 relay team also qualified with a fourth place finish as Aaron Harris, William Walker, Randy Griffin and Tyleik Overton will be competing as the 8th seed. 

The Eagles also received an individual qualification from Trey Bryant who took second in the high jump and will be competing as the 6th seed.
