The Mid-Atlantic Christian men’s basketball team defeated Trinity College of Florida 84-79 in its home opener Thursday evening.
The contest was the first game at the MACU Mustangs Showcase at Chesson Gym.
MACU trailed 47-33 at the half, but with better defense and utilization of a press they were able to convert turnovers into points.
MACU’s Grayson Tejeda led all scorers with 24 points.
Tejeda, a freshman, shot 8-of-14 from and field and converted on 7-of-8 free throws.
Leander Williams followed with 17 points. Tyler Hendrix and Jonathan DeLaRosa finished with 14 points each for the Mustangs (1-2).
“I am really proud of our guys for fighting back in the second half after a rough first half,” MACU men’s basketball coach Allan Harris said. “We have some things we need to clean up, but there is a lot of season ahead of us. If we keep working and improving, we could really make a run at something.”
