EDENTON — The John A. Holmes football team defeated Lakewood 49-7 in the third round of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association 1AA state playoffs on Friday night.

With the win, Edenton (12-1) advances to the 1AA East Regional Final, where it will face Tarboro.

The Aces are the No. 2 seed in the region, while Tarboro (13-0) is the top seed in the East.

Dequantae Spruill scored three rushing touchdowns for the Aces.

Lakewood (11-3) from Salemburg scored in the fourth quarter.

2A State Playoffs, Third Round

Wallace-Rose Hill 63, Northeastern 52: The Eagles (13-1) could not keep pace with the visiting Bulldogs on Friday night at the Northeastern Athletic Complex.

Northeastern, the No. 1 seed in the 2A East Region, ends its season in the third round of the state playoffs for the third consecutive season.

Wallace-Rose Hill (12-1), the region's No. 5 seed, advances to the regional final, where it will face No. 3 seed Southwest Onslow next week.
