HERTFORD — The Perquimans boys basketball team defeated Lawrence Academy 58-12 on Tuesday evening.

The contest was the home opener for the Pirates (3-0).

Malik Leach scored 12 points with five assists, five rebounds and three steals, Karaye Twine followed with eight points and five steals for the Pirates.

Dwuan Williams posted six points, four steals and four assists, Ky’Ron Mallory scored six points, Ceo Riddick scored six points, eight rebounds, six steals and two assists, while Rodney Lyons posted three steals, three assists and seven rebounds for Perquimans.

Riley Ratzlaff led Lawrence Academy (0-6) with eight points.

Up next, Perquimans hosts Virginia’s Grassfield High School today.

Gates 59, Currituck 45: The Knights (1-2) lost the non-conference matchup at Gates on Tuesday.

Quavon White scored a team-high 17 points, while Lorenza Spence followed with 14 points with eight rebounds.

KJ Harvey had a team-high 10 rebounds for the Knights.

Up next, Currituck hosts Camden on Friday.

Williamston-Riverside 51, Pasquotank 50: The Panthers (0-2) lost the non-conference matchup at home on Tuesday night.

Chris Hinmon scored 17 points with six assists, two steals and two rebounds to lead Pasquotank (0-2).

Vershawn Eley added 14 points with eight rebounds and four blocks

Up next, the Panthers travel to Riverside to face the Knights again on Tuesday.

Pasquotank’s boys and girls basketball games against John A. Holmes that were scheduled for Friday has been postponed to Monday, Dec. 18.

The Aces football team is playing in the 1AA East Regional Final against Tarboro on Friday night.

Multiple players on the football team are expected to play basketball for Edenton this winter.

Monday’s Game

Perquimans 77, Hickory 74, 2OT: The Pirates defeated the host Hawks at Hickory High School in Chesapeake, Virginia on Monday.

Malik Leach scored 23 points with eight assists and three steals, Dwuan Williams followed with 18 points, six assists, eight rebounds and five steals.

Karaye Twine had 12 points, 11 blocks, 10 rebounds and three steals, while Rodney Lyons added 11 points, seven assists, 10 rebounds and three steals for the Pirates.

 

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Perquimans 62, Lawrence Academy 28: McCrae Knapp scored 12 points to lead the Lady Pirates (2-1) to their second consecutive win on Tuesday at Perquimans County High School.

The contest was the home opener for the Lady Pirates.

Kayle Knapp followed with nine points, Chyna Elliott had eight, Asha Elliott posted seven points and Rachel Lane scored six.

Currituck 67, Gates 35: Jessica Smith scored a team-high 16 points to lead the Lady Knights (2-1) to the non-conference win in Gatesville on Tuesday.

Lauren Gerni and Ta’Nia Seymore scored 13 points each, while Tyana Peebles added eight points.

Pasquotank 48, Williamston-Riverside 39: The Lady Panthers (2-0) secured the non-conference win at home on Tuesday.

Monday’s Game

Perquimans 60, Hickory 40: The Lady Pirates (1-1) secured their first win on the season with a convincing result against the Lady Hawks on Monday.

Kayle Knapp and Chyna Elliott each scored 14 points, while Asha Elliott and McCrae Knapp each scored 12 points for Perquimans.
