The Elizabeth City State women’s basketball team returns to action today in West Virginia at a basketball classic at Salem University.

The Lady Vikings will face classic host Salem today at 5 p.m.

Salem (3-5) enters the matchup following a 66-65 win against Washington Adventist on Monday.

ECSU faced Salem International last season and lost 47-36 in Elizabeth City on Dec. 30, 2016.

Salem recently removed international from its name.

ECSU’s Jalyn Brown did not play in last season’s meeting at the Vaughan Center.

ECSU (3-4) will face Bluefield State (1-8) on Sunday at noon at the classic.

Lyric Hampton, a freshman, leads Bluefield State with a 12.5 points per game average. Sophomore Rosalie Pozo follows with an 11 point per game output.

Entering the classic, Brown leads the Lady Vikings with a 16.9 points per game average with Devona Stell adding 14.9 points with 8.6 rebounds per contest.

In the Lady Vikings’ last game, ECSU lost to Mount Olive 86-83 on Nov. 29 at Mount Olive.

Following its time at the classic, ECSU returns to the Vaughan Center on Tuesday to face the same Bluefield State team at 6 p.m.

Following Tuesday’s game, the Lady Vikings begin Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association play on the road at Shaw University on Dec. 14.

TOYS FOR TOTS

ECSU’s athletic department has joined forces with the Elizabeth City Police Department to help with the Toys for Tots Drive initiative by adding another Toys for Tots drop-off location.

Fans will have the chance to attend the Elizabeth City State women’s basketball contest against Bluefield State on Tuesday for half off the ticket price with a gift of an unwrapped toy.

The Vaughan Center will serve as a drop-off hub only for Tuesday’s contest for the Toys for Tots initiative.
