ECSU drops two at St. Augustine's

RALEIGH — The Elizabeth City State women’s basketball team lost to Saint Augustine’s 56-54 on Saturday afternoon at Saint Augustine’s.

Devona Stell led the Lady Vikings (6-6, 0-2 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association) with 17 points and 14 rebounds, while Jalyn Brown followed with 16 points.

Brown tied the game at 54-54 with less than 30 second remaining in the fourth quarter. The Lady Falcons (4-7, 0-2 CIAA) took the lead for good on a basket by Kamya Renwicks with less than five seconds to go.

ECSU missed a shot in the final moments.

The win for Saint Augustine’s snapped a 33-game losing streak in regular-season conference games.

The Lady Falcons’ last regular-season conference win was on Feb. 21, 2015, which was a 79-72 result against Fayetteville State.

The Lady Vikings return to the court on Jan. 4 in Elizabeth City against Livingstone.


Saint Augustine’s 71, Elizabeth City State 48: The Vikings trailed 35-15 at halftime and never recoverd on Saturday afternoon in the conference matchup at SAU.

ECSU (3-4, 0-2 CIAA) shot 3-of-26 from the field in the first 20 minutes.

Justin Faison led the Vikings with 13 points, while Saint Augustine’s Tyre Gathright scored a game-high 26 points.

Faison was the only player for ECSU to score more than 10 points in the contest.
