Aces, Eagles have most selections to All-Area football team

John A. Holmes and Northeastern were the top two football teams in the Daily Advance's coverage area.

Both schools are at the top of the list with players that earned All-Area team selections.

Northeastern's Traveon Freshwater, the 2017 Area Player of the Year, makes the All-Area team for the second consecutive season.

Camden, Perquimans Currituck and Pasquotank also had athletes make the team. 

Here is more on the 2017 All-Area football team:

Dallas Hall, Northeastern, QB, Sr.: Was selected as a Northeastern Coastal Conference all-conference first team at quarterback. Hall, a Hampton University signee, threw for over 2,000 yards with 23 touchdowns. Added 1,254 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns. Named NCC's co-Offensive Player of the Year.

Keimon Bailey, John A. Holmes, RB, Sr.: A three-time All-Area team selection, Bailey was named the Albemarle Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year. Rushed for 2,470 yards with 38 touchdowns. Selected to the AAC all-conference team. Ends prep career with more than 6,708 rushing yards and 86 scores on the ground.

Trequon Williams, Pasquotank, RB, Sr.: Rushed for over 1,300 yards and led the team in rushing touchdowns. Selected to the NCC second team as a special teams returner.

Darius Walton, Northeastern, WR, Sr.: Selected to the NCC first team at wide receiver. Led the team with 38 catches for 604 yards and five scores. Also played running back and contributed on special teams as a returner.

Mahli Jones, Perquimans, WR, Jr.: The junior wide out led the Pirates with 732 yards with 11 touchdowns. An Albemarle Athletic Conference all-conference performer at the position.

Nolan Hodge, Northeastern, WR, Sr.: Was a big-play threat for the Eagles in 2017. Was second on the team with 592 receiving yards and six touchdowns.

JaCori Shaw, Northeastern, OL, Sr.: A-two time All-Area team selection. The Hampton University signee was picked to the NCC's all-conference first team at the position.

Raymark Bembury, John A. Holmes, OL, Sr.: The lineman is a three time All-Area team selection. The senior had the highest average grade for lineman for the Aces. Also played on the defensive line. Was a 2017 Albemarle Athletic Conference all-conference pick.

Hunter Jernigan, Northeastern, OL, Sr.: A two-year starter at center for the Eagles, Jernigan was selected to the NCC's all-conference first team in 2017. Jernigan was also a long snapper on punts and snapped on the field goal unit.

Ky'Vaughn Rome, John A. Holmes, OL, Sr.: A three-time all-conference selection. Was an AAC all-conference selection in 2017.

Will Cross, Camden, OL, Sr.: An AAC all-conference selection on the offensive line this season. Cross also started on the defensive line.

Freshwater, Northeastern, DL, Jr.: Area Player of the Year.

Tim White, John A. Holmes, DL, Sr.: Recorded 149 tackles with four sacks on the defensive line this season. An Albemarle Athletic Conference all-conference selection at the position.

Albert Harris, Currituck, DL, Jr.: A Northeastern Coastal Conference first team selection on the defensive line. Posted 47 tackles with 13 tackles for loss, four forced fumbles with a fumble recovery. Also had four sacks. Played on offense at running back.

Jorrell Baum, Northeastern, DL, Sr.: An all-conference first team selection. Baum recorded 90 tackles with six sacks.

Xavius Capehart, John A. Holmes, LB, Sr.: A two-time all-conference performer. Selected as the Albemarle Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year. Led the Aces with 188 tackles, three sacks, two fumble recoveries and a blocked punt.

Dwuan Williams, Perquimans, LB, Sr.: A three-time all-area team selection, Williams was a all-conference performer at running back. Posted 37.5 tackles with four tackles for loss and three pass break ups.

Josiah Felton, Northeastern, LB, Sr.: Second on the team with 150 tackles this season. Selected to the NCC all-conference first team.

William “J.R.” Walker, Northeastern, DB, Jr.: A two-time All-Area team selection, Walker was picked to the NCC's all-conference first team at defensive back. Was selected to the AP All-State football team. Posted seven interceptions with 73 tackles this season.

Jordan Shaffer, Currituck, DB, Sr.: Was selected to the NCC's second team at the position. Recorded five interceptions with 48 tackles six forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries.

Zakeem Brooks, John A. Holmes, DB, Jr.: An AAC all-conference selection at the position. Posted 61 tackles with two interceptions and a fumble recovery.

Nakevin Hill, John A. Holmes, DB, Jr.: Had a team-high four interceptions this fall. Was an all-conference performer at defensive back. Posted 23 tackles.

JR Williams, Camden, WR/ATH, Sr.: Battled through injuries to be selected as an all-conference performer at wide receiver for the Bruins. Also contributed on special teams and on defensive in the secondary.

Wes Privott, John A. Holmes, K, Jr.: AAC all-conference selection as a placekicker. Converted 71-of-78 extra point attempts,while posting 18 touchbacks on kickoffs.

Jayden Calloway, Currituck, P/ATH, Soph.: NCC all-conference selection at linebacker (second team) and special teams (first team). Also the starting quarterback for the Knights. Threw for 435 yards yards with two scores. Rushed for 807 yards and eight scores. Also was the placekicker and punter for Currituck.
