The area had multiple athletes win East Regional championships this year.
The Pasquotank girls 4x100 meter relay team, Northeastern swimmer Emily Breaux and Camden boys cross country runner Dominic Brooks all secured regional crowns during the calendar year.
Breaux, then a junior, won the girls 100 meter backstroke at the North Carolina High School Athletic Association 1A/2A East Regional at Triangle Aquatic Center in Cary on Feb. 4.
Breaux, a three-time Daily Advance Area Girls Swimmer of the Year, won the race with a time of one minute, 02.39 seconds.
Breaux edged out Raleigh Charter’s Emma Peck who finished with a time of 1:03.21.
Breaux qualified for the 1A/2A state championship meet the following week and finished 12th overall at the state final in the event.
Pasquotank County High School was the site for the track and field 2A East Regional on May 13.
The Pasquotank girls 4x100 meter relay team has been the top relay team in the region for several years.
For the third consecutive spring, the Lady Panthers won the event with a time of 51.29 seconds. Kinston was second with a time of 51.68.
John A. Holmes was third with a time of 52.32.
The Lady Panthers advanced to the 2A state championship at North Carolina A&T State in Greensboro on May 19.
At the state meet, the Lady Panthers finished sixth.
Brooks, a senior, won the 1A East Regional at Roanoke Rapids Lake Park on Oct. 28.
The two-time Daily Advance Area Boys Runner of the Year won the race with a time of 17:42.15.
Brooks won the race by nearly 20 seconds.
The senior qualified for the 1A state championship meet and finished in 22nd place the next weekend at the state meet.
