Northeastern juniors Traveon Freshwater and William “JR” Walker were named to the USA Today All-USA North Carolina football team on Wednesday.

Walker was selected to the first team as a defensive back, while Freshwater was picked to the first team as a defensive lineman.

Freshwater and Walker were selected to the Associated Press all-state football team on Dec. 21 and the NCPreps.com Class 2A all-state team on Friday.

Both players were named to the Northeastern Coastal Conference all-conference first team on defense this fall, with Freshwater being named the league’s defensive player of the year.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Northeastern 49, Rocky Mount Prep 34: The Lady Eagles (1-4) earned their first win on the season during the first round of the holiday basketball tournament at Hertford County High School on Tuesday.

Breanna Proctor scored a team-high 20 points with 25 rebounds for Northeastern.

Love Ott had six points with 10 rebounds.

Millicent Ott and Tasharli Spellman each had six rebounds in the win.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Rocky Mount Prep 75, Northeastern 64: The Eagles (6-2) lost to the Jaguars in the first round of the holiday basketball tournament at Hertford County on Tuesday.

Up next, the Eagles have a game today at the tournament.
