Camden, Currituck, Edenton boast most picks on boys soccer All-Area team

By record, Currituck, John A. Holmes and Camden were the top boys soccer programs in the Daily Advance’s coverage area this fall.

Currituck (2A) and John A. Holmes (1A) finished second in their respective leagues behind strong soccer programs in Manteo (1A Albemarle Athletic Conference) and First Flight (2A Northeastern Coastal Conference). 

The Bruins finished third in the AAC.

Camden, Currituck and John A. Holmes all had three players selected to the 2017 All-Area team. 

Currituck’s Collin Innes leads the way as the Area Player of the Year.

Here is more on the All-Area team:

Collin Innes, Currituck, M, Sr.: Area Player of the Year, Northeastern Coastal Conference first team selection. Innes was the Knights’ Offensive Player of the Year.

Joshua Crisell, Currituck, F, Jr.: NCC first team selection and Currituck’s best transition player.

Andrew Goins, Currituck, D., Jr.: NCC second team all conference. Named Currituck’s Defensive Player of the Year.

Nev Duruman, John A. Holmes, M, Sr.: Albemarle Athletic Conference co-Player of the Year with Manteo’s Eric Hernandez. Scored 32 goals with 18 assists for 82 points. Led the conference in points, while second in the league in goals and assists.

Marsel Zidan, John A. Holmes, F, Soph.: AAC first team all-conference, scored 26 goals with six assists.

Eric Gonzalez, John A. Holmes, M, Sr.: AAC first team all-conference. Gonzalez is a previous All-Area team selection.

Jorge Pena, Northeastern, F, Sr.: Pena is a Northeastern Coastal Conference all-conference first-team selection and is a previous pick to the All-Area team.

Jake Jennings, Northeastern, D, Sr.: A veteran defender on the back line for the Eagles.

Bladen Harnly, Camden, D, Sr.: Albemarle Athletic Conference first team all-conference selection.

Kevin Robertson, Camden, F, Jr.: AAC all-conference first team selection. Led the Bruins with 17 goals and two assists.

Cody Wallingford, Camden, GK, Sr.: Second team AAC selection at goalkeeper. Stopped 206-of-240 shots with seven shutouts and 8-of-13 on penalty kick saves.

Lance Decker, Perquimans, GK, Sr.: Albemarle Athletic Conference first team selection at goalkeeper.

Seth Craiglow, Perquimans, F, Sr.: Albemarle Athletic Conference first-team selection. Craiglow, a senior, is a previous All-Area team selection.

Jalen Haist, Pasquotank, F, Fr.: Led the Panthers in goals (11) and assists (11). The freshman striker was named a Northeastern Coastal Conference all-league second team performer.
