Panthers, Aces compete at wrestling tournament

WASHINGTON — The Pasquotank and John A. Holmes wrestling teams took part in the Eli Saleeby Memorial Tournament at Washington High School on Saturday.

Pasquotank defeated Ayden-Grifton 42-27, but lost to Cary 69-9.

Winners for the Panthers were Travis Douglas, Dallas Senay, Pedro Aparicio, David Thompson, Javiaughn Basnight, Thong Tran, Patrick Bell, Darrien Stutz, Kimori Harris, Devin Alcorn, Jelani Alcorn and Tamariondre Mercer.

Basnight, Thompson, Tran, Stutz, Senay, Harris, Douglas, Jelani Alcorn and Devin Alcorn had multiple wins during the tournament.

The Aces lost to Cary 78-6, Clayton 56-24 and West Craven 42-27, but tied Ayden-Grifton 42-42.

Tyler Vick, Timothy White, Ky'Vaughn Rome, Riddick White, Nata Rankins, Brayden Johnson and Jordan Huerta secured wins for Edenton.

Rome, White, Rankins, Johnson, White and Huerta posted multiple wins.

Match at Cape Hatteras: Currituck defeated Manteo 58-12 at a match at Cape Hatteras High School on Saturday.

Winners for the Knights were Samuel Hodge (106 pounds), John Ammons (113 pounds), Noah Walker (120 pounds), Caleb Riggins (126 pounds), Michael Collins (132 pounds), Trent Walker (152 pounds), Mark Dutton (170 pounds), Keegan Lassiter (182 pounds), Albert Harris (220 pounds) and Christopher Ritter (285 pounds).
