CHARLOTTE — The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association released the seeds for the 2018 men’s and women’s basketball tournaments on Saturday night.
In the men’s tournament, ECSU is the No. 6 seed from the six-team CIAA Northern Division.
The Vikings (12-14, 5-11 CIAA) finished conference regular-season action tied with Chowan (11-15, 5-11 CIAA) with identical overall league records and 3-7 records within the division.
According to the CIAA, Chowan earned the No. 5 seed from the division, by beating the Vikings by a larger margin than when ECSU beat Chowan this season.
Chowan defeated ECSU 64-60 on Jan. 13 in Elizabeth City.
ECSU returned the favor with a 71-68 win at Chowan on Feb. 7.
The 1-point margin of win between the two matchups was the difference in the tiebreaker.
ECSU will face the No. 3 seed from the CIAA Southern Division in Livingstone on Wednesday in the opening round on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Bojangles’ Coliseum in Charlotte.
The ECSU women (9-19, 2-14 CIAA) are the No. 6 team from the very competitive CIAA North and will face Winston-Salem State, the No. 3 seed from the CIAA Southern Division on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. at Bojangles’ Coliseum in Charlotte.
The ECSU softball team lost two games against Newberry College in South Carolina on Sunday afternoon.
In Game 1, the Lady Vikings did not record a hit in a 20-0 loss in five innings to Newberry.
ECSU (0-5) was credited with six errors in the contest and trailed 15-0 after two innings.

Newberry (10-4) scored seven runs in the first inning.
