EDENTON — The Edenton Steamers lost to Holly Springs 6-3 on Thursday night in a Coastal Plain League regular-season opener for both teams at Hicks Field.

Trailing 3-1 entering the bottom of the fourth inning, Edenton (0-1) scored two runs to tie the game.

Reynaldo Pichardo connected on a solo home run to cut the Clams’ deficit to 3-2.

With runners on first and second, Edenton tied the game on an RBI single by Nick Caruso.

The Salamanders (1-0) took the lead for good in the top of the fifth inning on an Austin LaFollete solo home run.

CJ White added a two-run home run in the seventh for Holly Springs.

Edenton took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a Rich Ciufo homer.

Christian Bourne pitched three innings in relief to earn the win, while Casey Queener got the start for the Clams and went five innings, gave up four earned runs and registered five strikeouts in the loss.
