Due to poor light, Currituck's football home opener against Manteo Friday, August 17, 2018 was suspended and moved to Manteo High School Saturday night.

PINETOPS — The Pasquotank football team fell to SouthWest Edgecombe 54-0 on Friday night in the season opener for both teams.

The Cougars (1-0) scored its first two touchdowns just six minutes into the game, and took a 39-0 lead into halftime.

On defense, they allowed Pasquotank into the Cougars’ side of the field only two times, and intercepted the Panthers three times, all of which were returned for scores.

Pasquotank (0-1) hosts Northwest Halifax for its home opener this Friday.

Weldon 46, Camden 0: The Charges (1-0) secured the non-conference home win against the Bruins on Friday night.

Camden (0-1) hosts Currituck in the Byrd Bowl this Friday.


The Albemarle School volleyball and boys soccer teams played their first contests of the year Friday.

The volleyball team won in three sets against Windsor-Bethel Assembly Christian Academy.

Junior Brooke Perry led the Lady Colts with six kills and two aces.

Taylor Stallings, a junior, had 7 kills and 8th grader Ava Morris added 4 aces in the win.

Our boys soccer team secured a 3-1 victory against Bethel Assembly Christian in their first contest. The Colts were led by 9th grader Donovan Sherlock and 10th grader Brandon Gilliam with a goal and an assist each. Sophomore Logan Dunn also scored a goal for the Colts.
