North­east­ern and John A. Holmes were ranked in the first As­so­ci­ated Press North Carolina prep foot­ball poll, which was re­leased Tues­day af­ter­noon.

The Ea­gles (3-0) are ranked No. 2 in the Class 2A poll.

NHS re­ceived 84 to­tal points with one first-place vote.

No. 1 Lenoir Hib­riten re­ceived 98 points and nine first-place votes.

In Class 1A, Eden­ton (3-0) re­ceived 85 points and is ranked No. 2.

No. 1 Tar­boro got all 10 first-place votes for 100 points. The Vik­ings are the de­fend­ing 1AA NCHSAA state cham­pion and de­feated the Aces in the East Re­gional fi­nal last fall.

North­east­ern re­turns to ac­tion Sept. 14 at North­ern Nash, while Eden­ton hosts Ber­tie this Fri­day.
