High School Roundup | Edenton Lady Aces defeat Pasquotank Panthers in volleyball

The John A. Holmes volleyball team defeated Pasquotank 12-25, 25-21, 25-17, 25-19 Wednesday evening at Pasquotank County High School.

Maggie Bunch had seven aces and three kills for the Lady Aces.

Alli Dougherty had seven kills and four digs, Shandronasia Cooper posted four kills and six aces, while Dare Privott had seven digs in the non-conference matchup for Edenton (4-7).

The Lady Aces defeated Gates 25-22, 19-25, 25-23, 28-26 on Tuesday.

Dougherty had six kills and four digs, Bunch had five kills, three aces and two digs, while Makensey Caroon had nine digs in the Albemarle Athletic Conference match.


Northeastern 4, Perquimans 0: Sim Hurdle had three goals for Northeastern (4-2-0) in the win against Perquimans (0-6-0) Wednesday evening at Perquimans.

Michael Carter added the extra goal with Noah Hurdle and Rodrigo Molina adding an assist each.

Camden 2, John A. Holmes 2 (Camden wins 5-4 in PKs): The Bruins (3-2-2, 1-0 Albemarle Athletic Conference) secured the league win in a penalty kick session Wednesday evening at Camden Community Park.

The two teams played two overtime periods before the penalty kick session.

Edenton (3-3-1, 0-1 AAC) led 1-0 at halftime.

The Bruins tied the match in the second half, but Edenton’s Marsel Zidan scored a goal on a shot from about 35 yards away to give the Aces a 2-1 advantage.

Camden tied the game in the 77th minute off of a free kick.


Rocky Mount 8, John A. Holmes 1: The Lady Aces (3-4-1) lost at Class 3A Rocky Mount on Wednesday afternoon.

The Lady Aces return to action on Monday at Currituck.


Currituck, Northeastern, First Flight and Pasquotank took part in a Northeastern Coastal Conference cross country meet at Hertford County Wednesday afternoon.

First Flight won the boys and girls competitions.

The First Flight boys scored 15 points, Hertford County was second with 62 points and Currituck was third with 63 points.

Zach Hughes won the boys meet for First Flight with a time of 15 minutes, 29 seconds.

Currituck’s Laiten Gibson finished in 10th place, Pasquotank’s Adrian Sanchez was 13th place and Northeastern’s Ivan House was 26th place.

In the girls meet, the Lady Nighthawks scored 22 points, Currituck was second with 33 points and Pasquotank was third with 84 points.

First Flight’s Madison Pugh won the girls meet with a time of 19:57.

Currituck’s Hailee Reinke finished in second place, Northeastern’s Tara Downey was fifth, Currituck’s Jessica Anderson, Colleen Dongarra and Jaden Hobbs were seventh, eighth and ninth, respectively.

Tiffany Davis posted the fastest time for Pasquotank in 17th place.
