EDENTON — John A. Holmes soccer was able to hold on for a 2-1 victory over Camden on Monday.
The Aces took a 2-0 lead into halftime, with goals coming from juniors Marsel Zidan and Jake Bass.
Camden sophomore Spencer Middelton got one back for the Bruins in the second half to get them within one, but John A. Holmes held on for the win.
It was a rematch of when Camden defeated John A. Holmes in penalty kicks earlier this month.
The Aces improved to 6-5-1 (2-2 Albemarle Athletic) with their next game in Currituck on Wednesday. Camden fell to 4-4-4 (2-2 Albemarle Athletic) with its next match on Wednesday home against Manteo.
Pasquotank 7, Hertford County 0: The Panthers shut out the Bears Monday, with a big contribution from Jalen Haist.
The Pasquotank sophomore tallied four goals in the win, as he leads the team with eight goals this season. Evan Jarvis, Chandler Walton and Chase Perry were responsible for the other three goals in Pasquotank’s road game.
Perry began the game in net, making six saves, before senior Brandon Williams replaced him and finished off the shutout.
The Panthers improved to 5-0-2 after their third consecutive win and are back home today to face First Flight at 6 p.m.
First Flight 9, Northeastern 0: The Eagles suffered their worst loss of the season at First Flight on Monday.
The Nighthawks were led by senior Wade Denzin’s three goals and assist as they improved to 5-1.
Northeastern fell to 4-3-2, dropping its first conference match. The Eagles host Cape Hatteras on Wednesday.
Northeastern 7, Currituck 2: The Lady Eagles were able to handle the Lady Knights in Monday’s makeup match.
Emma Teacy, Jaycie Gregory, Ellie Hornthal, Brooke Overman and Madeline Twiford each won their singles matches for Northeastern. Hornthal and Twiford won their doubles match, while freshmen Zoe Pureza and Gracie Pierce battled it out against Currituck’s Lilly Nekervis and Grace Waters.
The Northeastern duo escaped with a 9-8 victory, after a 7-5 tiebreaker.
The Lady Knights’ Elizabeth Hewitt and Marley Renner were able to defeat Northeastern’s Overman and Olivia Sanders 8-5 to earn one of the two wins for Currituck. Hewitt defeated Sanders in the first singles match as well for the Lady Knight’s other win during Monday’s match.
Northeastern improved to 8-2-1 (3-2 Northeastern Coastal), while Currituck fell to 3-5 (2-3). The two teams meet again at Currituck on Thursday.
New Life Academy def. Victory Christian 25-12, 25-9, 25-23: The Lady Bobcats cruised to their third win of the season, improving to 3-2 on Monday.
Victory Christian fell to 1-5.
