High School Roundup | Perquimans tops Manteo in volleyball, clinches conference title

MANTEO — The Perquimans volleyball team defeated Manteo 25-7, 25-12, 25-15 Tuesday evening at Manteo High School.

With the win, Perquimans (19-2, 13-0 Albemarle Athletic Conference) clinched the league regular-season championship for the second consecutive season.

Cayce Copley had four service points, three aces and 15 kills, Samantha Midgett posted 15 service points, six aces and 11 kills, Megan Denson posted six service points, two aces and seven kills in the win.

Abby Todd had eight service points, two aces and three kills, Katelyn Sharber had 10 service points and six aces, McKayle Knapp had 13 assists and Erin Thomas 11 assists, five digs, four service points and an ace.

Camden def. Washington County 25-9, 25-9, 25-10: The Lady Bruins (16-4, 10-2 AAC) routed the Panthers Tuesday.

Gillian Denney posted eight kills, Brooke Gurganus had six aces, Mckenzie Underwood had seven digs in the victory.

Gurganus and Caitlyn Overton had 10 assists each.

Camden travels to Perquimans for a match today.

Currituck def. Pasquotank 25-12, 25-9, 25-11: The Lady Knights (12-2, 8-0 Northeastern Coastal Conference) moved closer to another Northeastern Coastal Conference regular-season championship with a three-set win at Pasquotank Tuesday.

Kamryn Johnson had 14 kills, Kayleigh Reagan-Smith followed with 10 kills and Merritt Woodson added six kills in the win.

Whitney Shilling posted five aces, while Johnson and Woodson posted two blocks each.

Reagan-Smith had 14 digs, Johnson posted 13 digs, Faith Hughes got 21 assists and Taylor McCarthy had 11 assists.

Pasquotank travels to Northeastern for a match today.

Northeastern def. Hertford County 25-18, 25-11, 16-25, 23-25, 15-11: Northeastern won the league match at Hertford County in five sets Tuesday.

Julianna Connor posted 10 kills. Ana Sanderlin had seven kills and four serving aces.

Melissa Harris, Tiara Holley, and MacKenzie Braymiller had seven digs each in the match.

Northeastern coach Kandis Rainey noted that it was a great team win for the Lady Eagles (6-9, 5-4 NCC).

Albemarle School def. Terra Ceia Christian 25-19, 25-18, 25-20: Albemarle School won its first conference tournament game versus Terra Ceia Christian School in three sets Tuesday at the TIC Tournament.

The Lady Colts were led by Samantha Nixon with four kills, four assists, three digs and an ace.

Sylvia Jennings added two kills, two aces, and two digs.

Monique Guzman-Torres helped in the contest with five assists, two digs and an ace.


Currituck 9, Hertford County 0: The Knights (7-5-2, 4-1-0 Northeastern Coastal Conference) won the league match at Hertford County Tuesday.

Manuel Torres-Santacruz, Noah Cutler, Joshua Crisell and Ryan VanKirk all scored two goals each.

Shane Farr added a goal in the win, while VanKirk added two assists.

Santacruz, Cutler, Crisell, Farr and Hunter Goins each added assists.
