Ex-Camden, Perquimans athletes earn academic honors at Chowan University

MURFREESBORO — Former Perquimans and Camden high school athletes were recognized for their academic achievements at Chowan University’s Honors College Student Association annual awards dinner.
Chowan made the announcement Tuesday.
Haley Cooper, a member of the Chowan softball team, was one of four seniors that received the Outstanding Honors College Senior Award.
Cooper played softball at Perquimans.
Last spring, Cooper helped Chowan win its second consecutive Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association softball championship.
Nicholas Cooper, a freshman on the CU men's lacrosse team, was awarded the Outstanding Honors College Freshman Award.
Nicholas was one of nine freshmen honored.
While at Camden, Nicholas played multiple sports, while participating with a travel lacrosse team.
The Mid-Atlantic Christian men's basketball team will host a toy drive during its Tuesday, Dec. 4 home game against Regent University at Chesson Gym.
Anyone that brings a new, unwrapped toy enters the basketball game for free.
WRVS BASKETBALL GOTW
For the fifth consecutive year, WRVS 89.9 FM will present varsity boys basketball games live on the radio for the area High School Game of the Week.
Boys basketball teams from the Class 1A Albemarle Athletic Conference and Class 2A Northeastern Coastal Conference will be featured during the 2018-19 season.
In a news release by the radio station Tuesday, select games will also be streamed online on the WRVS 89.9 FM Facebook page.
The broadcast schedule begins Friday, Dec. 7 as WRVS will broadcast the First Flight vs. Charlotte Myers Park game, which is part of the Good Guys vs. Cancer Showcase at First Flight High School in Kill Devil Hills.
Another featured game will be Manteo's home game against Camden County on Friday, Jan. 18, 2019. It will be WRVS' first time broadcasting a boys basketball game at Manteo.
WRVS will also cover the rivalry matchup between Pasquotank County and Northeastern at the Vaughan Center on the campus of Elizabeth City State University on Friday, Jan. 25, 2019.
During the season, the station will also give listeners and fans the chance to select what games WRVS will cover.
Those games will be designated as “Listeners Choice” games.
Fans are encouraged to vote on social media during the season.
