High School Football Roundup | Northeastern tops Southwest Onslow, wins 2A East Regional championship

The Northeastern football team defeated Southwest Onslow 47-36 Friday night in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association Class 2A East Regional final at Northeastern High School.

With the win, the Eagles (14-0), the No. 1 seed in the region, secured the regional championship and advances to the Class 2A state championship game at Carter-Finley Stadium in Raleigh Dec. 15.

The Eagles advance to their first state championship game since the 2010 season.

Northeastern will face the 2A West Regional champion Reidsville in the state title game.

Reidsville (15-0) rallied in the second half to defeat Brevard 24-21.

Southwest Onslow (12-3), the No. 6 seed in the region, falls in the regional final for the second consecutive season.

Class 1AA East Regional Final

Tarboro 48, John A. Holmes 7: The Aces (12-2) lost to the defending 1AA state champion Vikings in the regional championship Friday at Tarboro High School.

Tarboro (14-0) led 28-0 at halftime.

Tarboro will face East Surry in the state championship game.

The Aces scored late in the second half.
