Eagles clinch share of NCC wrestling crown

AHOSKIE — The Northeastern wrestling team won two dual matches at a tri-meet Monday at Hertford County High School.

By defeating conference foes Hertford County and Pasquotank, Northeastern clinched a share of the Northeastern Coastal Conference regular-season championship with Currituck.

NHS posted a 7-1 dual team record in the conference with its only loss to Currituck.

The Eagles defeated Hertford County 48-30 and Pasquotank 48-30 Monday.

Winners for Northeastern were Scott Marazoff, Braxton Tucker, Jonathan Ward, Bryan Woody, Jamison Fletcher, Tristen Barr, Raven Atkins, Amir Payton-Kimble and Isaiah Cartwright.

Pasquotank secured wins from Carlos Cardenas, Thong Tran, Kobe Keller, Travis Douglas and Scott Kresicki.


First Flight 93, Ayden-Grifton 64: The Nighthawks (9-7) made 23 shots from behind the 3-point line to secure a win at the MLK Invitational at Farmville Central Monday.

Dylan Blake scored a game-high 25 points and made eight shots from behind the 3-point line, Jordan High followed with 21 points, while Reese Jones posted 19 points.

High and Jones both made five shots from behind the 3-point line.

Blake added 10 rebounds and five assists.

James Richardson led Ayden-Grifton (6-9) with 16 points, while Christian Shearouse posted 12 points.
