The Elizabeth City State men’s basketball team defeated Virginia Union 60-57 at home Wednesday night.

Sophomore guard Justin Faison led the way for the Vikings (11-11, 7-4 CIAA) with 17 points in the game. Junior John Maynor added 13 points.

The Vikings led the Warriors (11-9, 7-3 CIAA) by 10 at halftime before Virginia Union got within one in the final minute. After free throws by Maynor, the Warriors missed a last-second shot to try to send it to overtime.

Junior center Tyjhai Byers led ECSU with nine rebounds as sophomore Omar Roberts had nine assists. 

The Vikings travel to Bowie State on Saturday for a 4 p.m. game.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Bertie 62, John A. Holmes 58: The Aces dropped to 15-3 after their final non-conference game of the regular season.

Juniors Mitjonta Stanley and Keenan Downing both scored 16 points in the loss. Seniors Antuan Sharpe, Zion Boston and Nakevin Hill rounded out Edenton’s scoring for the night with 14, seven and five points, respectively.

The Aces host Camden tonight at 7:30 p.m.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Bertie 88, John A. Holmes 41: The Lady Aces fell to 11-7 with the loss.

The Lady Falcons were led by senior Akyia King’s 24 points as they held a 52-15 lead at halftime.
