The Elizabeth City State athletic department released the 2019 football schedule Wednesday.

The schedule features 11 games.

ECSU will host four games at Roebuck Stadium in 2019 and will host Fayetteville State at the Down East Viking Football Classic Sept. 28 in Rocky Mount.

Last season's Down East Classic against Winston-Salem State along with ECSU's CIAA road game at Fayetteville State were canceled because of Hurricane Florence.

ECSU will open the 2019 season at Football Championship Subdivision program Hampton Aug. 31.

The Vikings’ home opener will be Sept. 7 against Allen University.

Allen, an NAIA program, fielded a team in 2018.

Before that, Allen University did not sponsor a football program for more than a decade.

ECSU then faces Livingstone (Sept. 14) and FCS program North Carolina Central (Sept. 21) on the road in non-conference games.

After hosting the Broncos in Rocky Mount, ECSU travels to Raleigh to face CIAA foe Saint Augustine's on Oct. 5.

The Vikings close the season with CIAA Northern Division games against Virginia State (Oct. 12), Lincoln (Pa.) for homecoming (Oct. 19), at Chowan (Oct. 26) at Virginia Union (Nov. 2) and host Bowie State (Nov. 9).

ECSU posted a 1-7 record last season.

“We put together a challenging schedule for 2019. We talk to our recruits about when they come here they will have the opportunity to play in a tough conference and will have the chance to play quality opponents outside of the CIAA. This schedule makes good on that promise,” ECSU head football coach Anthony Jones said in a news release.
