Stanley's FTs lift Mustangs past Builders

The Mid-Atlantic Christian men’s basketball team defeated Apprentice School 66-65 Thursday night at Chesson Gym.
The Mustangs (3-19, 2-8 Eastern Metro Athletic Conference) clinched the conference win with the help of Alex Stanley, who connected on a pair of free throws in the final seconds of the game to give the Mustangs a one-point advantage.
The win snapped a three-game losing streak.
Stanley, a product of Pasquotank County High School, scored 20 points with five rebounds and a blocked shot.
The game-winning free throws were his only attempts from the line in the game.
Stanley, a senior, shot 9-of-16 from the field.
Malik Galloway led MACU with 21 points, 10 rebounds with two blocked shots.
MACU shot 46.8 percent (29-of-62) from the field and held a 35-34 lead at halftime.
Brandon Joyner, Andre Brown and Drew Walton led Apprentice School (11-12, 4-6 EMAC) with 13 points each.
MACU returns to action Wednesday at home against Clinton College.
Old Dominion 70, UAB 59
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — B.J. Stith and Ahmad Caver scored 21 points apiece as Old Dominion beat UAB on Thursday night.
Dajour Dickens had 12 points, eight rebounds and three blocks for Old Dominion (19-6, 9-3 Conference USA).
Former Northeastern High School standout Aaron Carver added nine rebounds for the Monarchs.
Old Dominion headed to the locker room at halftime trailing 35-28, but the Monarchs were able to outscore the Blazers 42-24 in the second half to roll to the victory. The Blazers’ 24 points in the second half marked a season low for the team.
The Monarchs trailed by five before taking control with a 15-2 run that made it 53-45 with 10 minutes to go.
Jalen Perry had 14 points and six rebounds for the Blazers (14-10, 6-5 C-USA). Jeremiah Bell added 13 points. Zack Bryant had 11 points.
