RICHMOND, Va. — The Elizabeth City State women’s basketball team trailed by 29 points at halftime as host Virginia Union defeated the Lady Vikings 94-51 Wednesday night at Barco-Stevens Hall on the campus of Virginia Union University.

Virginia Union, which is ranked No. 2 in the latest NCAA Division II Atlantic Region poll, held a 49-20 advantage after two quarters of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association Northern Division matchup.

The Lady Vikings shot 29.5 percent (18-of-61) from the field, while the Panthers shot (35-of-67) 52.2 percent from the field.

Asia Deal led ECSU with 13 points, while Jalyn Brown and Naterria Luster followed with 12 points each.

ECSU committed 22 turnovers, while VUU scored 23 points off ECSU’s turnovers.

Virginia Union (23-2, 14-2 CIAA) led by 47 points in the second half.

Shareka McNeill led VUU with 21 points, while Nicole Floyd followed with 20 points.

ECSU (13-14, 5-11 CIAA) has lost six consecutive games.

The Lady Vikings conclude their regular season at home Saturday against Bowie State.

Piedmont International 81, Mid-Atlantic Christian 50: MACU (4-18) lost its home finale Tuesday evening.

Talethia “Bookie” Alexander, a senior, scored 13 points with five rebounds and a steal in her final home game with the Lady Mustangs.

Alexander made three 3-pointers in the contest.

Imani Simmons led MACU with 15 points and six rebounds, while Kendra Campbell followed with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Trinity Stark paced Piedmont International (15-11) with 20 points, six rebounds and three steals, while Arian Rumph followed with 18 points, 12 rebounds and three steals.

MACU will face Apprentice School at the Eastern Metro Athletic Conference tournament Friday.


Clinton College 91, Mid-Atlantic Christian 74: The Mustangs (4-21) lost in the quarterfinal round of the Eastern Metro Athletic Conference tournament Tuesday.
