Vikings set to close out regular season

ECSU hosts CIAA foe Bowie State today

The Elizabeth City State men’s and women’s basketball teams will conclude the 2018-19 regular season today at the Vaughan Center against Bowie State.

Both basketball teams enter their regular-season finale on losing streaks.

The Lady Vikings (13-14, 5-11 CIAA) have lost six consecutive games entering their matchup against the Lady Bulldogs.

Bowie State delivered one of ECSU’s losses during the streak with a 70-53 win against ECSU Feb. 2 at Bowie State.

In the first matchup, Naterria Lusted led ECSU with 23 points, while Bowie State was paced by Kyaja Williams who posted 20 points and nine rebounds.

Bowie State (21-4, 13-3 CIAA) brings a five-game winning streak to the Vaughan Center.

During the winning streak, the Bulldogs secured a 58-46 win against Virginia Union Feb. 13.

Williams leads Bowie State with a 13.3 points per game average this season.


The Vikings (12-15, 8-8 CIAA) have lost three consecutive games.

ECSU put up a fight in its first meeting against Bowie State Feb. 2 at Bowie State.

A late basket in double overtime lifted the Bulldogs to the 88-87 win.

Omar Roberts led ECSU with 18 points, while Bowie State was led in the game by David Belle and his 24 points.

Bowie State (16-11, 15-4 CIAA) lost the Virginia Union 93-69 Wednesday at Virginia State.

Belle leads BSU with a 12.7 points per game average.


Following the final day of regular season games, the CIAA will release the brackets for the CIAA men’s and women’s basketball tournaments.

Before today’s games, the ECSU women are in last place in the six-team Northern Division, while the ECSU men are in fifth place in the Northern Division just ahead of Chowan.


The ECSU softball team is scheduled to return to play Feb. 28 against Bryant & Stratton College.

ECSU (0-3) has been outscored 30-3 in three games this season.
