CHARLOTTE — The Elizabeth City State women’s basketball team lost to Fayetteville State 69-53 in the semifinal round of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association women’s basketball tournament at Spectrum Center.

Devona Stell led ECSU (16-16) with 19 points and 15 rebounds, Asia Deal followed with 14 points and four assists, while Jalyn Brown posted six points and six rebounds and three assists.

Brittany Drumgoole led No. 1 seed Fayetteville State (21-7) with 16 points, Chinwendu Maduegbunam added 14 points, while Darria Hewitt scored 10 points.

ECSU shot 34.5 percent, while the Lady Broncos shot 41.1 percent from the field.

The No. six seed Lady Vikings appeared in their first CIAA semifinal since the 2010 CIAA tournament.

Fayetteville State will face fellow No. 1 seed Virginia Union in the women’s championship game today.
