EDENTON — The John A. Holmes softball team defeated Northeastern 14-4 in five innings Friday night at John A. Holmes High School.
Jhasi Gilliam paced Edenton (2-1) as she went 3-for-3 with two home runs, four runs scored and four RBI, Ashlyn Leary went 2-for-4 with three RBI, Sydney Spear went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI, Maggie Bunch went 3-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and two RBI, Hannah Pippins went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a RBI, Kristen Williams had two doubles with two runs scored and a RBI, Charity Stallings went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and posted a triple, Brianna Griffin had a hit with a RBI in the win.
Bunch pitched five innings in the circle, gave up six hits, four earned runs, three walks with two strikeouts in the win.
Northeastern (0-3) scored runs in the late innings of the non-league game.
Perquimans 15, First Flight 4: The Lady Pirates (3-0) earned the non-conference win at First Flight Friday.
Kaileigh Nixon led Perquimans with three hits with two RBI, Summer Christian posted three RBI with two hits.
First Flight falls to 0-2 on the season.
Camden 20-13, Pasquotank 0-0: The Lady Bruins (4-0) swept a doubleheader at Pasquotank Friday.
The first game of the doubleheader, a Camden 20-0 win, was scheduled to take place Wednesday at Camden, but was postponed to Friday at Pasquotank.
Both games ended in five innings.
Pasquotank falls to 0-2 on the season.
Jacksonville-White Oak 6, Currituck 2: The Lady Knights (1-1-0) lost their first game of the season to White Oak at the Brittany Willis Memorial Showcase Friday night at the Gillette Sports Complex in Wilson.
White Oak, a Class 3A program, improves to 3-1-1 on the season.
Currituck 5, Manteo 2: The Knights (1-2) defeated rival Manteo (1-1) at the Hatteras Sandlot Tournament at Cape Hatteras High School Friday.
Austin Pace went 2-for-3 with a double with a run scored and two RBI, Cole Bates went 2-for-3 with a RBI, Will Langley had two hits with a double and a RBI and Cannon Pickell had a hit with a RBI in the win.
Pace pitched six innings, gave up three hits, no earned runs with a walk and five strikeouts in the win.
John A. Holmes 8, Northeastern 0: The Aces (4-0) secured the non-conference win Friday at Hicks Field in Edenton.
Chris Morris had a triple, two RBI and two runs scored, Davis Halstead posted a hit with a run scored and two RBI, while Wes Privott was credited with a RBI in the win.
Northeastern falls to 1-2 on the season.
First Flight 3, Perquimans 2: The Pirates (3-1) fell at First Flight Friday in a non-conference matchup.
Braden Jordan went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored, Nathan Scaff was credited with a RBI, while Tyler Futrell and Michael Brasseur each had a hit in the game.
Futrell also scored a run.
Austin Johnson had a hit with a RBI, while Noah Smeltzer was credited with a RBI for First Flight (2-0).
Perquimans’ Tanner Thach pitched two innings, did not give up a run and recorded six strikeouts, while Chase Ward pitched four innings, gave up four hits, three runs, no earned runs, two walks and posted three strikeouts.
First Flight’s Colin Wyant went four innings, gave up two hits, a run, no earned runs, two walks and posted a strikeout, while Brentan Rowe went three innings, gave up two hits, an earned run, three walks and recorded four strikeouts in the win.
