The Currituck baseball team defeated Bear Grass Charter 1-0 Saturday in the championship game of the Hatteras Sandlot tournament.

The Knights (2-2) scored a run on a RBI by Cole Bates in the fourth inning.

Bates also pitched 6 1/3 innings and posted two strikeouts in the win.

The Knights posted six hits in the contest, while Bear Grass Charter (3-1) was held to two hits in the contest.

Currituck is scheduled to face Camden on the road today.


Henderson Collegiate 69, Washington County 59: The Panthers (26-2) lost to the Pride in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association Class 1A East Regional final at Minges Coliseum in Greenville Saturday.

Quymel Chesson paced Washington County with 15 points, while Omar Harris and Cedez Norman followed with 12 points each.

Akhiris Holden led Henderson Collegiate (31-2) with 18 points.

Henderson Collegiate will face Bishop McGuinness (23-8), the 1A West Regional champion, in the NCHSAA Class 1A state championship game at the Dean E. Smith Center in Chapel Hill Saturday, March 16.
