Area athletes medal at NCHSAA 2A track and field state championship meet

GREENSBORO — Athletes from Northeastern, Currituck and Pasquotank closed out their track and field seasons at the North Carolina High School Athletic Association Class 2A state championship meet at North Carolina A&T State University Friday.

Athletes and relay teams that finished in the top four of their event earned a medal.

Northeastern secured a state championship from its 4x200 meter relay team of Avion Price, Kentron King, Jordan Jones and Juan Riddick.

NHS’ 4x100 meter relay team of Price, King, Riddick and Aaron Harris finished second in the event.

Harris took third place in the boys’ 100 meters, Jordan Jones placed third in the boys’ high jump, while Wonderful Banks was second in the boys’ triple jump.

Northeastern Jessica Jenkins finished fourth in the girls’ high jump to earn a medal.

Currituck’s Ashley Lindsey finished fourth in the girls’ shot put, while Patrick Riddick had the best finish for Pasquotank as he took fifth place in the boys’ discus.

North Lincoln won the boys’ state championship with 76.50 points, Croatan was second with 57 points, Northeastern was third with 39.50 points.

First Flight was sixth with 29 points and Pasquotank finished tied for 31st with N.C. School of Science and Math with seven points.

In the girls’ competition, Cummings won the girls’ team championship with 90 points, Durham School of the Arts was second with 50 points, Northeastern was tied for 22nd place with Bertie with 12 points and Currituck finished tied for 28th with Franklin and Draughn with seven points.
