A former Perquimans County High School softball player was drafted Wednesday by a team in the American Softball Association (ASBA).

Haley Cooper was selected in the 14th round with the No. 54 overall selection by the Performance Lab Mobile (Ala.) softball club.

Cooper completed her four-year college softball career at Chowan University this spring.

While with the Hawks, Cooper played catcher and in the infield.

She was a multi-time all-CIAA softball performer during her career at Chowan.

Cooper was named an all-CIAA softball tournament performer this season.

Chowan won back-to-back CIAA tournament championships with Cooper in 2017 and 2018.

The American Softball Association is scheduled to begin its 2019 season June 14 in Satsuma, Alabama.
