Steamers rally late to knock off Pilots

HAMPTON, Va. — The Edenton Steamers defeated the Peninsula Pilot 3-2 Thursday night at War Memorial Stadium.

Edenton (3-6) broke a 2-2 tie in the top of the eighth inning.

Edenton’s Quincy Hamilton drove home Justin Drpich on a RBI single.

Drpich led off the inning with a double.

Tyler Hopman, who pitched three innings in relief, got the win, while RD Lutze secured his first save of the season with a clean ninth inning.

Lutze only gave up one hit.

Peninsula (6-6) scored the game’s first run in the fourth.

Matt Burch’s RBI single and a Nick Gonzalez sacrifice bunt with a runner of third base also scored a run to give the Pilots a 2-0 lead.

With a runner on base in the top of the fifth inning, Edenton’s Dane Simon hit a two-run home run to left field to tie the game at 2-2.

Drpich paced Edenton with three hits, while Hamilton and Jordan Fitzpatrick followed with two hits each in the win.

Ian Fitzgerald got the start for Edenton and went five innings, gave up three hits, two earned runs, a walk and posted five strikeouts for the no decision.

Peninsula’s Luke Zimmerman pitched two innings in relief and was tagged with the loss.
