Currituck County High School rising senior Cannon Pickell took part in the Perfect Game USA High School Baseball Showcase June 11-15 at Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona.

Pickell, a right-handed pitcher, is committed to the University of North Carolina baseball program.

He pitched in a showcase game Friday at Chase Field, which is the home of MLB’s Arizona Diamondbacks.

According to Perfect Game Scout’s Twitter account: “Cannon Pickell is a physical righthander committed to North Carolina who has a power arsenal on the mound. Pickell has a live arm with a fastball that ranged 89-92 mph along with a swing-and-miss breaking ball in the upper-70s with late tilting life. #PGNational”

Gregory Gerard, a national scouting coordinator with Perfect Game noted on Twitter: “RHP Cannon Pickell (2020 NC) sitting 89-92 mph @ #PGNational. Strong frame, lots of strikes, flashed a sharp CB w/ late bite at 78. #UNC commit.”

Pickell helped the Knights win the Northeastern Coastal Conference championship and a trip to the second round of the NCHSAA Class 2A baseball state playoffs this spring.
