Edenton splits doubleheader at Morehead City

MOREHEAD CITY — The Edenton Steamers split a doubleheader against the Morehead City Marlins Sunday night at Morehead City.

Edenton lost the first game 7-4, but secured an 8-7 victory in Game 2.

Game 1 was the continuation of a May 31 contest between the teams.

The game was halted in the eighth inning with the game tied at 4-4 because of inclement weather.

On Sunday, Morehead City scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to take a 7-4 lead.

Morehead City's Leo Perez pitched 1 2/3 innings to secure the win.

In Game 2, Edenton broke a 4-4 tie in the in the sixth inning with a run off a Morehead City error.

The Clams took a 6-4 lead following a RBI single by Justin Drpich.

Edenton (5-8) added more runs in the eighth on a RBI single by Jake Evans and a sacrifice fly out by Jordan Fitzpatrick to take an 8-4 lead.

The Marlins (8-7) added a run in the bottom of the eighth with two more runs in the bottom of the ninth inning for the game's final runs.

Edenton scored three runs in the top of the first inning with a run scoring on a Drpich RBI single with a Quincy Hamilton two-run home run.

Drpich, who also had a RBI single in the third, went 3-for-5 with a run scored and three RBI in the win.

John Dowless pitched 1 1/3 innings in relief, gave up a hit, no earned runs, a walk and posted two strikeouts for the win, while Grant Crosby went 2 2/3 innings, gave up four hits, three earned runs, no walks and posted two strikeouts to secure the save.
