All-Area baseball team: Accomplished players earn spots on team

It was a unique spring for high school baseball in the area.

Currituck, John A. Holmes and Perquimans made their annual visits to the NCHSAA state playoffs, but private school Albemarle School made history this season by advancing to their first NCISAA Class 1A state championship final since the early 1990s.

This year's all-area baseball team boasts multiple all-conference and all-state team selections.

Here is more on the All-Area baseball team:

Cole Langley, Albemarle School, IF/P, Fr.: Tarheel Independent Conference all-conference selection, over .450 batting average, over 10 runs scored, as a pitcher posted a 2.85 ERA, pitched 39 1/3 innings with 56 strikeouts.

Tanner Simpson, Albemarle School, P/IF, Jr.: Tarheel Independent Conference Player of the Year, TIC all-tournament team selection, North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association Class 1A all-state team selection, over .400 batting average, with more than 25 RBI, as a pitcher, Simpson's ERA was under 1.00.

Cole Bates, Currituck, P/1B, Sr.: Area Player of the Year.

Austin Pace, Currituck, P/IF/OF, Sr.: Northeastern Coastal Conference first-team all-conference selection as an outfielder, the North Carolina State signee had a .405 batting average with 19 RBI. As a pitcher, Pace had a 1.53 ERA in 32 innings pitched.

Cannon Pickell, Currituck, P/1B, Jr.: Northeastern Coastal Conference first-team all-conference selection as a pitcher, pitched 41 innings, 0.683 ERA with 92 strikeouts. At the plate, Pickell, a North Carolina commit, hit .261 with nine RBI and pitched in the Perfect Game Showcase in Phoenix, Arizona June 14 at Chase Field.

Will Langley, Currituck, IF/OF, Sr.: Northeastern Coastal Conference first-team all-conference selection at shortstop, posted a .403 batting average, eight doubles, three home runs with 21 RBI.

Chris Morris, John A. Holmes, 3B, So.: Albemarle Athletic Conference Player of the Year, all-conference selection, .288 batting average with 24 RBI, six doubles, three home runs, North Carolina Baseball Coaches Association Class 1A public schools all-state team selection, helped Region 1 win silver at North Carolina Powerade State Games high school baseball tournament June 16 in Charlotte.

Ryan White, John A. Holmes, P/OF, Jr.: Albemarle Athletic Conference all-conference selection, eight stolen bases .279 batting average, 12 RBI, five doubles, .996 fielding percentage, posted a 3.32 ERA in 44 1/3 innings pitched and posted 54 strikeouts.

Caleb Bunch, John A. Holmes, P/1B, So.: Albemarle Athletic Conference all-conference selection, posted an ERA of 1.57 in 49 innings pitched, registered 65 strikeouts and limited opposing batters to a .189 mark. At the plate, Bunch hit. .250 with five RBI.

Chace Kelly, John A. Holmes, IF/P, Sr.: Albemarle Athletic Conference all-conference selection, posted a .321 batting average with 18 RBI and four doubles, stole 12 bases, had a .915 fielding percentage, posted a 1.97 ERA in 32 innings pitched and had 39 strikeouts.

Colin Riddick, Northeastern, P/IF, Jr.: Northeastern Coastal Conference second-team all-conference selection as a pitcher, posted a .320 batting average with a .469 OBP. As a pitcher, he had a 2.38 ERA with 69 strikeouts and a 3-1 overall record. Helped Region 1 win silver at North Carolina Powerade State Games high school baseball tournament June 16 in Charlotte.

Tyler Futrell, Perquimans, C, Jr.: Albemarle Athletic Conference all-conference selection, .333 batting average with 25 hits, 14 singles, 6 doubles, a triple and four home runs, 25 RBI and 25 runs scored, helped Region 1 win silver at North Carolina Powerade State Games high school baseball tournament June 16 in Charlotte and a two-time State Games participant.

Braden Jordan, Perquimans, 1B, Jr.: Albemarle Athletic Conference all-conference selection, .333 batting average, 24 hits, seven doubles, two home runs, .969 fielding percentage.

Tanner Thach, Perquimans, P/IF, Fr.: Albemarle Athletic Conference all-conference selection, .385 batting average, 25 hits, six doubles, pitched in 35 1/3 innings, 1.387 ERA, with 59 strikeouts, helped Region 1 win silver at North Carolina Powerade State Games high school baseball tournament June 16 in Charlotte.

Michael Brasseur, Perquimans, IF, Sr.: Albemarle Athletic Conference all-conference selection, .356 batting average, 26 hits, 18 singles, seven doubles, one home run, 19 RBI.

Jason Stallings, Pasquotank, OF, Sr.: Northeastern Coastal Conference first-team all-conference selection as an outfielder, .315 batting average, .413 on-base percentage, .981 fielding percentage, nine runs scored, seven RBI.
