Steamers fall to Pilots to end first half

HAMPTON, Va. — The Edenton Steamers lost to the Peninsula Pilots 12-7 Saturday night at War Memorial Stadium.

The Steamers (13-13) held a 5-3 lead after the top of the fourth inning, but Peninsula (13-13) countered with a seven-run bottom of the fourth inning to take the lead for good.

The Clams added two runs in the top of the seventh, while the Pilots posted two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Kenny Oyama posted two hits, Anthony Stehlin posted two hits with an RBI, Dane Simon had a double with an RBI, Colin Adams went 2-for-4 with a run scored, a double and an RBI, Justin Drpich went 3-for-4 with two runs scored, a double, a triple and an RBI, while Rob Weissheier went 3-for-4 with two runs scored, a home run and two RBI for the Steamers.

Riley Hogan went 2-for-4 with a run scored and four RBI, while Nick Biddison went 4-for-5 with three runs scored, a double, a triple and two RBI for Peninsula.

Saturday’s game was the last game of the first half for the Steamers and Pilots.

Both teams finished with the same overall record, but Edenton won five of the eight matchups against Peninsula during the first half.

Wilson (14-11) clinched the CPL North Division championship Friday.

Edenton begins second-half play Tuesday at home against Morehead City.
